ABOUT THE ARTIST’S WORK
“We all have a bond. My artist lens is one of a focused bystander experiencing my reality while observing the world around me. That world could be my local community, my country Nigeria where in the past years and to date I have had so many experiences with different people in it. Wherever I am, I always feel the need to talk, investigate and perceive the people around me. I accept the significant roles of ethnographer and strategic visionary that we artists have played in society throughout history.
My art reflects on human experience and mentorship which is one of the ways I communicate with people. I reflect human-like and the belief of people with one connection or the other is very strong and with this, I have to be able to discover and reveal more about people, especially the black, and our purpose as a living soul either for good or the opposite.” (Tobiloba)
Fasalejo Tobiloba is a Nigerian visual artist who was born on January 17th, 2000 in Ondo state. He spent a significant part of his life in the ancient city of Ondo where he received his upbringing. Fasalejo is currently studying at Adeyemi federal university of Education Ondo, Ondo State.
Fasalejo has a passion for art which started from his childhood. As a disciplined artist, he creates speculative works that highlight the black identity. Over the years, he has explored different mediums such as painting and drawing techniques. He has exhibited his works at the Lasgidi Cultural Arts Festival of Colors My City Art Festival, which has earned him a place in the top 100 artists across the country. Currently, Fasalejo is delving deeper into the use of textured canvas and acrylics for painting, collage, and mixed media. His thematic disposition spans from concepts captured from the immediate environment which are sociocultural, psychological, and religious in nature.
