Kiss of Judas

The Kiss of Judas is an artwork that refers to the kiss that Judas gave to Christ, which was, according to the synoptic gospels, the way in which Judas Iscariot identified Jesus to the soldiers when they came to arrest him.

Judgment

Judgment of Jesus at the Sanhedrin is an episode in the life of Jesus that, according to the Jewish Bible, takes place shortly after his arrest in Jerusalem and before the Pilate’s judgment. In this episode Jesus is taken to the high priest’s house, where he is blindfolded, mocked, and beaten. He remains largely quiet, not putting forward a defense and rarely responding to accusations, ending up convicted by the Jewish authorities when he refuses to deny that he is the Son of God. The Jewish leaders then take him to Pontius Pilate, the governor of the Roman province of Judea, and ask him to order the death penalty on Jesus on the grounds that he would be king of the Jews.

Flagellation
The Flagellation of Jesus, also known as Christ in the Pillar, is an episode of the Passion of Christ that appears quite frequently in Christian art, in Passion cycles or as a major theme in the Life of Christ cycles.
Crown of Thorns

The crown of thorns was an instrument of torture used by the Romans during the Crucifixion of Jesus. According to the Bible, this instrument was woven from dry thorns and placed on Jesus’ forehead just before his crucifixion.

2nd Fall

This artwork makes reference to the 2nd Fall, and also to the veil of Veronica, known as Saint Veronica of Jerusalem, who met Jesus when he was carrying the cross along the Via Dolorosa towards Calvary. The bible tells that she took a moment to wipe the blood and sweat from Jesus’s face with her veil, his countenance would have been imprinted on the fabric.

3rd Fall

This artwork makes reference to the third fall of Christ, as well as to Simon of Cyrene, who was according to the Synoptic Gospels a man who, after the fall of Jesus, was forced by the Roman soldiers to carry the cross of Jesus Christ to the end. Golgotha, the place where Jesus was crucified.

Crucifixion

The crucifixion of Jesus was an event that probably occurred between AD 30 and AD 33. Jesus, the Son of God and also the Messiah, was arrested, tried by the Sanhedrin and condemned by Pontius Pilate to be scourged and finally executed on the cross. This artwork concerns the moment of the crucifixion.

Descent

The Descent or Deposition of Christ is the scene, represented in this artwork, of the removal of the dead body of Jesus from the cross by Joseph of Arimathea and Nicodemus, reported in John 19:38-42.
