Description

ABOUT THE ARTWORK

Vanity” is an artwork by Cecília Acevedo, a crochetpainting artist that started working with textile fibers to increase the sensorial experience, adding the tactile system, creating a new medium and concept of emotional art through the crochetpainting technique. The yarns used in Cecília’s crochet technique are of various compositions, both synthetic and natural, even yarns botanicals, which are hand-dyed by the artist with natural pigments.

Non-verbal expression through faces has become my main topic of interest in the art world. To be able to capture this language through signals from the nervous system, the fasciae and the subtle movements of the muscles to convey emotions, personality, attitudes, moods and how this language is captured by the viewer, producing changes in their biochemistry to act as a receptor for this language, is something that has always motivated me to study, work and pierce with my art. This is why to achieve more life in my works I have decided to work with textile fibers, which add more textures than simple painting. These fibers intertwined with crochet, result in a new means of expression, the crochetpainting, which allows me to achieve much more lively works that transmit much more because not only the visual system is added, but also the tactile one, providing a sensory journey much broader and deeper. (Cecília Acevedo)

Cecília Acevedo is a crochetpainting artist, born in Chile in 1988, who merged her passion for crochet with her scientific knowledge of Anatomy, human movement and neuroscience. Graduated in Kinesiology, she specialized her knowledge in soft tissue and myofascial chains and how they affect posture and facial expressions, communicating non-verbal language. Passionate about non-verbal language and emotions, she began to draw lines on faces that not only express and convey moods, but also lived experiences, creating a new medium and concept of emotional art through the crochetpainting technique.  She started working with textile fibers to increase the sensorial experience, adding the tactile  system. The yarns used are of various compositions, both synthetic and natural, even yarns botanicals, which are hand-dyed by the artist with natural pigments. Cecília’s work came to shake the world of Contemporary Art, highlighted in several exhibitions, such as the world textile festival “Yarn Bom-bing Trivento” in Milán, Italia,  the Contemporary Art Fair in Chile ARTSTGO or the ARTWEEK Art Fair in Chile.
