ABOUT JUDGMENT

The “Judgment” is an artwork by the portuguese artist Carlos Teixeira and belongs to a religious series on the nine crucial moments that marked the life of Jesus Christ. Judgment of Jesus at the Sanhedrin is an episode in the life of Jesus that, according to the Jewish Bible, takes place shortly after his arrest in Jerusalem and before the Pilate’s judgment. In this episode Jesus is taken to the high priest’s house, where he is blindfolded, mocked, and beaten. He remains largely quiet, not putting forward a defense and rarely responding to accusations, ending up convicted by the Jewish authorities when he refuses to deny that he is the Son of God. The Jewish leaders then take him to Pontius Pilate, the governor of the Roman province of Judea, and ask him to order the death penalty on Jesus on the grounds that he would be king of the Jews.
